On November 10, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) website, Tesla will recall more than 40,000 2017-2021 Model S and Model X electric vehicles, the reason for the recall is that these vehicles are on rough roads. Steering assistance may be lost after driving or encountering potholes. Tesla’s Texas headquarters has released a new OTA update on October 11 aimed at recalibrating the system to better detect steering assist torque.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) said that after the loss of steering assistance, the driver needs more effort to complete the steering, especially at low speeds, the problem can increase the risk of collision.
Tesla said it found 314 vehicle alerts across all vehicles involved in the defect. The company also said it had not received any reports of casualties related to the issue. Tesla said more than 97 percent of recalled vehicles had the update installed as of Nov. 1, and the company upgraded the system in this update.
In addition, Tesla is recalling 53 2021 Model S vehicles because the vehicle’s exterior mirrors were made for the European market and did not meet U.S. requirements. Since entering 2022, Tesla has initiated 17 recalls, affecting a total of 3.4 million vehicles.
