Sony Corporation President and CEO Kenichiro Yoshida recently told the media that the electric vehicle joint venture between Sony and Honda was “best independent,” indicating that it may go public in the future. According to previous reports, the two will establish a new company in 2022 and launch the first product in 2025.
In March of this year, Sony Group and Honda Motor announced that the two companies will jointly develop and sell electric vehicles with high added value. In the cooperation between the two parties, Honda will be mainly responsible for the vehicle’s drivability, manufacturing technology, and after-sales service management, while Sony will be responsible for the development of entertainment, network and other mobile service functions. The partnership also marks Sony’s first substantial foray into electric vehicles.
