Recently, Sony Group and Honda Motor announced the formal signing of an agreement to establish a joint venture Sony Honda Mobility. It is reported that Sony and Honda will each hold 50% of the shares of the joint venture. The new company will start operations in 2022, and sales and services are expected to start in 2025.
This car integrates some Sony technologies, such as: VISION-S 02 will be equipped with up to 40 autonomous driving sensors, including 4 lidars, 18 cameras and 18 ultrasonic/millimeter wave radars. Among them is the CMOS image sensor dedicated to Sony cars, and the camera on the body can achieve high sensitivity, high dynamic range and LED traffic sign flicker mitigation. The car is also equipped with a ToF distance camera, which can not only monitor the driver’s facial expressions and gestures, but also read the driver’s lip language, which can improve the recognition of voice commands in noisy situations. It can even infer the occupant’s state based on the behavior it reads to adjust the temperature inside the car.
The cockpit supports 5G, which means that the high-bandwidth, low-latency network can provide smooth audio and video entertainment in the car, and even Sony is already conducting tests using 5G networks for remote driving. The car is also equipped with a triple screen, and there are also display screens behind each seat, which can play shared or exclusive videos. It is reported that the car will also be equipped with PS5, which can also be remotely connected to the game console at home to play PlayStation games, and online games can be played through the cloud.
