Application of single-layer windings: Single-layer windings are generally only used for small asynchronous motors below 10kW . Chain windings are used for 4- , 6- , and 8- pole motors with q=2 . Cross windings are used for 2- and 4 -pole motors with q=3 . Concentric windings are only used for a few 2- pole motors where wire embedding is difficult . Full-pitch windings are basically not used.
The number of turns of the winding must meet the requirements: because too many turns will waste copper wire, make it difficult to insert the wire, increase the leakage resistance, and reduce the maximum torque and starting torque; too few turns will increase the motor no-load current and reduce the power factor. If the number of turns of the three-phase winding is not equal, the three-phase current will be unbalanced, and the motor performance will also deteriorate.
