The protection level is an important performance parameter of motor products, and it is the protection requirement for the motor housing. It is characterized by the letter “IP” plus numbers. IP23, 1P44, IP54, IP55 and IP56 are the more commonly used protection levels for motor products. For motors with different protection levels, the compliance of their performance can be checked through professional testing by qualified units.
The first digit in the protection level is the protection requirement for the motor casing to the objects and people inside the motor casing, which is a kind of protection requirement for solid objects; the second digit refers to the poor performance of the motor caused by the water entering the casing. Affect protection.
For the protection level, the nameplate of the motor should be clearly marked, but the relatively low protection requirements such as the motor fan cover, end cover and drain hole are not displayed on the nameplate. The protection level of the motor should match the environment in which it operates, and if necessary, the environment in which it operates should be appropriately improved to ensure that the performance of the motor is not endangered.
Motor rain caps are measures taken to prevent rainwater from locally invading the motor, such as the protection of the top of the vertical motor fan cover, the protection of the motor junction box, and the special protection of the shaft extension. Etc., because the protective cover of the motor hood is more like a hat, so this type of component is named “rain cap”.
There are relatively many cases where the vertical motor adopts the rain cap, which is generally integrated with the motor hood. In principle, the rain cap cannot adversely affect the ventilation and heat dissipation of the motor, and cannot cause the motor to produce bad vibration and noise.
0 – no waterproof motor;
1——Anti-drip motor, vertical dripping should not have adverse effects on the motor;
2 – 15-degree drip-proof motor, which means that the motor is inclined to any angle within 15 degrees from the normal position to any direction within 15 degrees, and will not be adversely affected by vertical dripping;
3——Water-proof motor, refers to the water spray within 60 degrees of the vertical direction, which will not affect the performance of the motor;
4 – Splash-proof motor, which means that splashing water in any direction will not cause adverse effects on the motor;
5 – Water-proof motor, water spray in any direction will not adversely affect the motor;
6 – Anti-sea wave motor, when the motor is subjected to violent sea wave impact or strong water spray, the water intake of the motor will not cause adverse effects on the motor;
7—Water-proof motor, when the motor runs within the specified water volume and within the specified time, the water intake will not cause adverse effects on the motor;
8 – Continuous submersible motor, the motor can run safely in the water for a long time.
It can be seen from the above figures that the larger the number, the stronger the waterproof ability of the motor, but the greater the manufacturing cost and manufacturing difficulty. Therefore, the user should select a motor with a protection level that meets the requirements according to the actual environmental conditions.
